Corrections

What we got wrong, when, and what is right.

When we get something wrong, we correct it in public: with the date, what was wrong and what is right. In the corrected piece the note is at the end; here they all are, newest first.

  • Per Strand Hagenes wins Paris-Tours solo. In the headline, the summary and the text the race was named «Paris»: the automatic writer had cut the official UCI name, «Paris – Tours Elite». It now reads «Paris-Tours». The fault has been fixed in the program too.
  • Where Seixas won Il Lombardia and the measured climbs on the Il Lombardia 2026 race page. We had written that on the second San Fermo Seixas took 26 seconds out of Mas: the organiser’s clock says 14 (6′17″ against 6′31″), and the rest came on the flat and downhill. In the full account the seconds gained on the climbs are 44, not 56, and the headline now says “almost all of them uphill”. The break was caught at 16:36, not 16:40, Del Toro was dropped at 16:37:57, not 16:43, and Seixas accelerated at 16:35, a few minutes into the climb, not at the foot. In the table of climbs the Civiglio is about 12′16″ instead of about 13′: the earlier estimate measured the break at the foot and Seixas at the top. The second San Fermo now has the official time, 6′17″, instead of an estimate.
  • Tommaso Bessega’s rider page. His name was spelled “Tommasso”, as in the Wikidata label we took it from. Corrected with the official UCI results; the old address leads to the right page.

  • Il Lombardia live, 17:03 update. We had written that Paul Seixas was winning at 20 years and 6 days. He was 20 years and 16 days old: he was born on 24 September 2006. Corrected at 17:06.
  • Il Lombardia live, 13:47 update. Following a live report, we had written that Andrea Bagioli finished second in 2024 and Giulio Ciccone third last year. Bagioli finished second in 2023 and Ciccone third in 2024, according to the official UCI results. Corrected at 13:51.
  • Il Lombardia without its master and the Il Lombardia 2026 numbers sheet. We had written that before Tadej Pogačar nobody had won more than two Lombardias in a row and, in the sheet, that Fausto Coppi had won at least three. Coppi won four in a row (1946–1949) and five in all, as many as Pogačar; after them comes Alfredo Binda, with four. We also removed the comparisons with the weather at past editions, which were not reliable.
  • Rider pages. Mathieu van der Poel was listed as French and Pavel Sivakov as Russian. Van der Poel races for the Netherlands and Sivakov for France: sporting nationality now comes from the UCI.
  • Team rosters. The 2026 rosters included 300 people who no longer race, among them sports directors such as Franco Pellizotti, on the Bahrain Victorious roster, and Pablo Lastras, on the Movistar women’s team roster. Rosters now include only riders who raced this year or last year.
  • Wins on rider pages. The lists of wins had gaps: among others, Remco Evenepoel‘s two gold medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics and his time trial world titles were missing. They now come from the official UCI results, like the season-by-season tables, which sometimes counted more wins than races.

  • The fagIAno at Il Lombardia 2026. The probabilities of the first riders model were too flat, and the test we had checked it with was flawed: as its benchmark it used an old UCI ranking, from October 2025. With the right ranking the model lost. We removed them from the race page and the numbers sheet before they froze a single race. The new model passed the test on the 51 races of 2026, and its probabilities were frozen on the evening of 9 October, before the start. How we test it: How we work.
