The sums, line by line
We had given the winner 11.3%.
Paul Seixas won: we had two riders ahead on our list. Of our top ten, six finished in the top ten. How it ended: the winner finished alone, a scenario we had given 70%.

Log loss is minus the logarithm of the probability given to the winner: the lower, the better. All predictions are compared on the 174 starters, from the official UCI results: whatever the fagIAno gave to riders who then didn’t start is shared out among those who did. Form counts how many times a rider finished in the top ten over the last year (World Tour, ProSeries, Worlds and Europeans). One race says little: we judge the model on the races it hadn’t seen, in the fagIAno’s record.
What we forecast before the start
What we do
- done: The 11 editions since 2015, 7 of them finishing in Como
- done: Route, climbs and timings: 66 locations
- done: The entry list: 175 riders from 25 teams
- done: Hour-by-hour weather at the key points
- done: Our model: how the race can end
- done: Riders' model: passed the test on races it had not seen
- in progress: Starters confirmed on the eve of the race
Our predictions
- How it ends: the winner arrives alone, at 70% (between 45% and 90%).
- The margin: without a dominant rider, between 16" and 32" over second place.
- Who: according to the rider model, the most likely winners are Remco Evenepoel (39%), Isaac Del Toro Romero (19.8%), Paul Seixas (11.3%).
Two scenarios
An attack on the hardest climb of the finale, Civiglio, and a solo finish: that is how the race has been won most often.
Nobody makes the difference on Civiglio, the best regroup on the descent and two or three of them sprint for the win.
Where it is decided
The favourites will probably attack on the Civiglio: 4.2 km at 9.7%, peaks of 14%, summit 16.7 km from the finish. It is the hardest climb of the finale. The last chance is the San Fermo della Battaglia, which crests 5.2 km from the line.
This is a reading of the route: length and gradient of the climbs in the finale.
How it can end
How big a gap? In the years without a dominant rider (2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020) the solo winner had between 16" and 32" on second place. Every year between 30% and 70% of the starters finish.

The test: on the 51 races it had not seen, the model has a log loss of 2.85, against 3.41 for the UCI ranking (lower is better).
The weather
At the expected passing times between 14 and 21 degrees, wind up to 8 km/h with gusts up to 22, rain at most 18% likely. The weather should not change the race.
The models we use
- How it can end la fagIAnata’s model
- From the 7 editions finishing in Como, the probability of each outcome with its 90% interval: with few editions the interval is wide, as it should be.
- Who is strongest The riders model
- Each starter’s chance of winning, frozen before the start. We publish it because the model passed the test: on the 2026 races it hadn’t seen, it predicted better than the UCI ranking.
- The benchmark UCI one-day race ranking
- The riders model has to predict the races it has not seen better than the UCI ranking does: we measure it with the log loss. If it fails, we do not publish its probabilities.
- How big a margin, how many finishers Statistics on the times
- Gaps and finishers in past editions, from the UCI times: the minimum and the maximum, no model involved.
- Where it is decided Climb difficulty index
- The climbs of the last 30 km ranked by hardness, from length and gradient. A simple rule, not a statistical model.
- The weather Numerical forecast
- Hour-by-hour temperature, wind and rain from the weather models, at the altitude of each point on the route and at the time the bunch passes.

The finishing order of the 2026 Giro di Lombardia is out.

Seixas alone, with no rivals: he accelerated on the Civiglio and left everyone behind.
-
Final kilometre: the stage belongs to Seixas.
-
The podium looks set: Mas second, Ciccone third. Evenepoel's group should fight for fourth place.

At 20 years and 16 days, Seixas is the youngest Lombardy winner ever, beating the record of Gerbi, who was over 20 years and 5 months old in 1905.
-
-2 km
Seixas with 2 km to go: at 20, he is on the verge of winning his first Monument.
